Maastricht MECC Interclassics 2025

Jaap Horst

The first Classic Car show of the year is, each year, the one at the MECC exhibition centre in Maastricht, the Netherlands. For the Dutch, this classic car show is known as MECC, and not by it's official name Interclassics (which I continue to forget). Though it is not as good (of course) as Retromobile three weeks later, there always is a lot to be seen, and always a few Bugattis are shown.

This year I went again by train, total travel time (one way) about 5 hours door to door. However, the trainride enabled me to work on specific Bugatti tasks, especially preparations for the 3rd edition of the book on the Bugatti 100P airplane, the 2nd edition is already 10 years ago!

For the 30 years of the MECC's existence, there always has been a large booth with Bugatti's, organized by Jean Prick, son of the even more famous Guillaume Prick, co-founder of the Dutch Bugatti Club and initiator of many Bugatti Rallies in the Netherlands and abroad. Jean passed away in 2018, since then the display has been continued by his daughter Chantal (Top Photo), family and friends. Always a tranquil spot to talk to Bugatti friends. Thank you Chantal!

There were a few more interesting Bugatti's on the show, amongst which a Type 40 which had not been shown to the public in several decades.

Bugatti automobiles

As stated above, Chantal Prick had again organized the Bugatti stand, with three Bugatti's, a children's car, and many photographs, posters and other items, see the photographs below.

Nice Brescia, chassis 2386.

Original Type 40 of Toon and Jos van Genugten. Including one more photograph with Chantal.

Replica Type 35A

Several images of the many photographs, posters and more on Chantal Prick's stand. On the left (lower left in the photo) the announcement of my first book "Bugatti Legends", when Jean Prick offered it for sale on his stand, back in 2006!
The photo on the right is the Type 57C of first Han and later Wim van Pelt, which was sold in 2015 and has since changed colour in an extreme way. The car as I have known it for more than 40 years has disappeared....

Drawings I have never before seen, it look like a merger between a Bugatti and a Renault Alpine A310. The yellow one is different from the red, and called "Atlantide". Both drawings are by Paul Kestler, who sometimes autographed with "Pakesign". (Info from Jean-Pierre Cravé).

Below: three cars of Fineautomobiles (Jaap Braam Ruben and Philippe Mulders):

Type 40, 40778, which has been in the Netherlands from 1970, first owner Dries van der Lof and 7 years later Adriaan van Opstal. Currently for sale. Originally Long wheel base, later shortened.

Bugatti Type 37, chassis 37201. Very interesting tiny rear lights.

Type 57 showing it's internals. Still being built-up. Doubtlessly for sale within a year or so.

A large part of Interclassics was dedicated to "30 years Interclassics", due to Covid, this was only the 28th edition however. For each year, a classic was exhibited, with only one Bugatti, this Type 35 currently owned by Luc Slijpen.

The Bugatti Royale inspired Panther de Ville of 1979. Nowadays I see these much less often than original Bugatti's, even less often than Bugatti Royale's! Price tag: 78 k, Dutch registration.

Replica of a Baby Bugatti, already sold.

Baby Type 59, seen before on other shows, with quite a heft pricetag of 35 k.
